from knowing how the Grand Priory and the Gozo Commandery has
operated during the past year, aims for the current year shall
also be announced, it is also an opportunity for any member to
put forward any positive suggestions or comments.
There are
times when help is needed especially when organizing activities
which entail a variety of jobs, from secretarial work to helping
with some small chores, as and when the need arises. We would
like to know whether you can offer yourself to be on our
contingency list for such purposes and be available when being
called. Please inform the Grand Priory by giving your name to
the Chancellor by phone or email.
Please
note that your Annual Oblation was due on 1st January
2010. Those who have not yet paid, are kindly requested to send
their cheque for €116.00 made payable to ‘Order of St. Lazarus’
to the Receiver General at the given address hereunder, or bring
your cheque at the Annual General Meeting.
Half-Marathon in
aid of ANGELS Children's HOME PROGRAME
'The
Event is a Walk of 21.1 km spanning from Mdina to the Ferries in
Sliema. It is scheduled for 28.02.2010. It is part of the
national Marathon that each year draws hundreds of participants
from Malta and abroad. Participants are individuals, but can
also form Teams. The Grand Priory is sponsoring one such group ,
led by a keen member, Mr Roderick Grech CLJ, accountant and
auditor. Most participants in his team, ten to twelve adults,
are from the professions or in business entities. They can only
have 'three-person' teams, so they'll probably split into such
small teams, registering with the Organisers as 'Lazarus A',
Lazarus B' and so on ! Those half-marathoners who collect at
least 50 euros by the date of the event will be refunded their
participation fee. Both Individuals and Teams can register for
the several prixzes in the contest.
Our Team "walkers" are fundraising for Charity and the
charity consists in aiming to send a nice sum of money to
Ethiopia for the ANGELS CHILDREN's HOME PROGRAME being run and
managed by an elderly Maltese lady (Monica Tonna Barthet) who sold all her possessions,
house, car jewellery and All, to build a house that can
accommodate and offer a healthy and caring home environment to
several Street Boys she eventually picked up and nurtured from
the rough and tumble backstreets of Addis Ababa.
She is an incredible woman who thinks of nothing for herself
and, full of love of God, gives her all to these children. She
has some 25 boys there now. They learn to care for themselves,
understand cleanliness, respect and love for their neighbour.
They abandon the bad habits of their difficult childhood and
become useful citizens through education, good health and a
'family' sense in their lives. The Catholic Church of Ethiopia
and some Nuns in a nearby convent help along as they can, driven
by their admiration for Monica who, here when she met us, also
conquered our hearts.
Over the next few weeks people will be approached by the Marathoners, Grand Priory
Members and Gozo Commandery Members, to kindly (if they wish)
either give a donation by cheque given to the authorised
persons or make a pledge , of any amount however small. If they
pledge, Donors can go to ANY Bank, their Bank, and deposit the
money into the Account below.
We have opened a Bank Account with Bank of Valletta for this
specific purpose of supporting the ANGELS CHILDREN's HOME
-Ethiopia, which now badly needs to expand in a nearby piece of
land and to acquire a second-hand bus for the Boys'
transportation.

The
Account number
is :

and the Account is named
