ACTIVITIES - 2005

19th February
Social Event - Illustrated Talk "The Origins of the Military & Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem" by Dr. C. Savona-Ventura OLJ at the Dolmen Resort Hotel, Bugibba.

 

9th April
Investiture Ceremony of the Grand Priory of the Maltese Islands held at the Basilica of St. George, Victoria, Gozo. Investitute included 10 admissions, 9 promotions and 13 awards. Attended by Vicar General Chev. R.A. Attard and H.E. the Chancellor Dr. Chev. F. Schuberth. Ceremony followed by a Gala Dinner at the Mgarr Hotel, Gozo.


St. Lazarus Day - 25th June
Social Event - Celebration of Holy Mass followed by a Fund Raising Dinner at the Dolmen Resort Hotel, Bugibba.

2nd July
Outing for Brain-damaged children organised at the Splash & Fun Complex by the Step-by-Step Foundation under the direction of Lazarite members Ms. Marisa Xuereb and Mr. Kenneth Cremona. The visit was made possible through the benevolent gesture of the Park's owners and other benefactors.

 
3rd July
A delegation of the Order participated in the traditional feast of "The Visitation" in Gharb, Gozo at the invitation of the Gharb Local Council attending the solemn High Mass at the Gharb basilica church. The delegation was led by H.E. Dame Helen Meli Attard, DGCLJ, Member of the Supreme Council and Grand Custodian, H.E. Chevalier Dr. Joseph R. Pace, GCLJ, Grand Prior, and Chevalier Paul P. Banavage, KCLJ, Commander of Gozo. Ten Members of the Order - including Commander David Zammit, CLJ, from the Special Rescue Group - wearing the church cape attended this important function. Our delegation was seated on the first rows on the right hand side of the church, whilst other dignitaries such as the Mayor, Chevalier David Apap Agius, KLJ, and members of the local council were seated to the left. The Bishop of Gozo, H.E. Monsignore lic. Dr. Nikol Joseph Cauchi, officiated mass with the help of another 14 members  which included Archpriests and other important clergy members. At the end of the whole ceremony , the delegation was invited in the beautiful sacristy along with  the high dignitaries for drinks and refreshments. After the whole function, a small part of the delegation consisting of five members went to pay a courtesy visit to H.E. The Grand Vicar, who happened to also be in Gozo. After the meeting the remaining  members went to the L-Imgarr Hotel for lunch.

31st July
A fund-raising activity, including a bazaar, was organised by the Step-by-Step Foundation and the Special Rescue Group at at the Bay Street Complex at Paceville. Representatives for the Step-by-Step [Mr. K. Cremona], the Special Rescue Group [Mr. A. Fenech], and the Grand Priory of the Maltese Islands - MHOSLJ [Dr. C. Savona-Ventura] were interviewed by Bay Radio announcer Mr. Mario Sapiano.
27th August
Outing for Brain-damaged children organised in Gozo by the Step-by-Step Foundation.

10th September
Official Opening of  Support Clinic for Brain-Damaged Children at Gharb, Gozo sponsored by the Grand Priory of the Order of St. Lazarus and the Step-by-Step Foundation. Named Centru Nicolai Nappa, the Clinic was officially inaugurated by the Hon. Minister for Gozo Ms. Giovanna Debono in the presence of all the Civil Majors of Gozo. The premesis were blessed by the Archpriest of Gharb Mons. Carmelo Gauci. The opening was given media coverage including the major newspapers and the National Television station.


7th October
The Order was given television coverage in the Programme "Kalamita" (Magnet) on Super One Television. Members of the Order, including the Grand Prior, had the opportunity to  promote the Order and its philantrophic works.

15th October
The Step-by-Step Foundation and the Commandery of Gozo featured in the weekly talk-show on Smash Television called "Tista Tkun Int" (It Could Happen to You) run by presenter Silvio Parnis. Taking part were Cons. Marisa Xuereb and Confr. Kenneth Cremona Caruana for the Step-by-Step Foundation; and Chev. Paul Banavage, Confr. Mayor David Apap Agius, Chev. Michael Ciavola and the Grand Prior, H.E. Chev. Dr. Joseph Pace for the Order. This Programme has a large following in both Islands and deals with topics concerning human needs, solidarity and healing of ills and pains, physical or moral. The main spotlight was thus on the work being performed with brain-injured children, the launch of the Gozo Clinic, and the imminent opening of the Hamrun Clinic. The opportunity was taken to also promote the Order and its philantrophic ideals.

7th-12th November
Grand Magisterial Council Meeting 2005 Malta
Ordered by the Vicar General and President of the Supreme Council, with the approval of the Supreme Council and according to the rules set up in part 1, section 5, paragraph 5.4 of the Constitution, Statutes and General Regulations the Grand Chancellor called together the Grand Magisterial Council Meeting 2005 which was held between 7th and 13th November 2005 at Malta. The Grand Priory of Malta, under the leadership of the Grand Prior, H.E. Dr. the Chev. Joseph R. Pace GCLJ,  had been entrusted with the organisation and realisation of this international meeting. All Members belonging to the Obedience of Malta, those attached to a Jurisdiction as well as those in gremio religionis, and especially all Heads of Jurisdiction were kindly invited to participate in the forthcoming GMCM'05 Malta. The Hotel Headquarters and Meetings were located in the ‘Four Star Superior’ New Dolmen Resort Hotel, in St. Paul’s Bay.   

12th November
Investiture Ceremony of the Grand Priory of the Maltese Islands held at the University Church, Msida. Investitute included 11 admissions, 6 promotions and 5 awards. Attended by Vicar General Chev. R.A. Attard and H.E. the Chancellor Dr. Chev. F. Schuberth. Ceremony followed by a Gala Dinner at the New Dolmen Hotel, Bugibba.The Investiture was also attended by members of the Grand Priory of the Mediterranean of the Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus. A Gala Dinner was subsequently held at the Grand Dolmen Hotel at Bugibba. This was addressed by Minister Dolores Cristina.


4th December
A delegation of the Order participated in the Commemorative Mass for the occasion of the "International Day for the Disabled" organised by the Health & Special Needs Subcommittee of the Mosta Local Council.  The delegation was led by H.E. Chevalier Dr. Joseph R. Pace, GCLJ, Grand Prior. Six members of the Order - including Confr. Kenneth Cremona Caruana for the Step-by-Step Foundation - wearing the church cape attended this important function.

7th December
Social Event - Pizza Buffet in the aid of the Step-by-Step Foundation held at the Topaz Hotal, Qawra.

16th December
Official opening of the Support Clinic for Brain-Damaged Children at Hamrun, Malta sponsored by the Grand Priory of the Order of St. Lazarus and the Step-by-Step Foundation. Named Centru Kavallier Vincent J. Bugeja, the Clinic was officially inaugurated by the Hon. Minister Ms. Dolores Cristina.

17th December
Patronal Service: The Grand Priory of the Maltese Islands held the Annual Patronal Service to celebrate the feast of St. Lazarus. Holy Mass was celebrated by the Senior Chaplain Rev. Fr. Thomas Moore OFM (Conv) BA(Ed), SChLJ, KMLJ, at St. James Church in Valletta. This was followed by Lunch at the Casino Maltese in Valletta.


24th December
Midnight Mass at Lapsi Church at St Julians, with the kind permission of the Parish Priest Fr Toledo. After the Event there a small get-together was held in the Sacristy.
